A photog of Bill and Melinda Gates during an interview at the Malaria Forum in Seattle

Bill Gates co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation speaks while co-chair Melinda Gates listens during the Malaria Forum at the Grand Hyatt in Seattle Tuesday Oct. 18, 2011.

Here are some photographs from Bill and Melinda Gates speaking at a forum focused on the worldwide eradication of Malaria, one or the more significant foci of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Coming up with interesting photographs in a forum setting is always a challenge. Some times the photos are just straight forward. Fortunately the lighting on the stage was nice.

Photograph of Sounders FC Fans hold up Kasey Keller scarves

A pair of Seattle Sounders FC fans show their appreciation for goalkeeper Kasey Keller before play between the Seattle Sounders FC and the San Jose Earthquakes at CenturyLink Field in Seattle Saturday October 15, 2011. The Sounders FC won the game 2-1. The game was Keller's last regular season home game.

Kasey Keller played his final regular season home game at CenturyLink Field. In legendary fashion, Keller made at least three, if not four, saves in quick succession. If nothing else, it tells me how much the Sounders will miss his play moving on next season. Here are a few pictures from the night, which, by the way, was a win for the Sounders against the San Jose Earthquakes. The night wasy most emotional during the game as there were several confrontations between Sounders FC and Earthquakes players. Those photos are after the break and one last photo of Kasey Keller. I am particularly fond of the photograph of Lamar Neagle and Fredy Montero celebrating goal. I like the emotion and that it is layered with an out-of-focus Osvaldo Alonso also celebrating in the background.

Photograph of presidential candidate Mitt Romney speaking at podium at Microsoft

Former Massachusetts Gov. and Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney speaks on trade issues October, 13, 2011 on the Microsoft campus in Redmond Washington.

Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney visited Microsoft in Redmond, Washington Thursday. Not sure if I’ve ever covered a presidential candidate this far before a presidential election in Washington state. Unfortunately, the light was not very conducive to dramatic photos that I have seen on the campaign trail. Here are a few pictures from that day. All said, we were given pretty good access to the room for photos.

Philadelphia Union midfielder, Brian Carroll, left, and midfielder Freddy Adu celebrate Carroll's goal during play between the Seattle Sounders FC and the Philadelphia Union at CenturyLink Field in Seattle Sunday October 8, 2011. The Union won the game 2-0. Both Adu and Carroll scored.

It seemd like all the action happened at the other end of the field. During the first half all the action was in Sounders end of the field and in the second, most of the action was on the Union side, except for two goals. Decent action was hard to come by. Days after winning their third consecutive U.S. Open Cup, they were flat and they were without Fredy Montero. Though I felt better about getting some photographs of celebration at my end of the field, including one shot with feature both goal scorers in the same frame: Freddy Adu and Brian Carroll.

From left Seattle Sounders FC players Osvaldo Alonso, Fredy Montero and Alvaro Fernandez celebrate winning their third consecutive U.S. Open Cup during play between the Seattle Sounders FC and the Chicago Fire in the U.S. Open Cup Final at CenturyLink Field in Seattle Tuesday October 4, 2011. Seattle won the game 2-0.

Shortly after photographing the Amanda Knox press conference, which on time and very brief, I was off to the CenturyLink Field to shoot the Sounders FC and the Fire in the U.S. Open Cup Final. I arrived just before kick off. The Sounders played in and won their third consecutive U.S. Open Cup Final. Unfortunately, I was at the opposite end of the field for first goal the Sounders scored. Nonetheless, I like the photograph I made for the first goal, albeit from a long ways away. The celebratory photos at the end were also nice. I was able to get both goal scorers in one photo after the game.

Amanda Knox, right acknowledges the cheers of supporters while her mother Edda Mellas comforts her after Knox's return to Seattle after being freed from an Italian Prison October 4, 2011 at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in Seattle Washington.

After being freed from an Italian prison Amanda Knox returned to the U.S. Upon her arrival there was to be a press conference at the airport. There were no less than 150 members of the media present, trying get positions for the conference. The only hitch was that no one really knew if Knox would address the media or even appear. Well, she did, which I must say was very brave. After almost four years in prison, just as long in headlines of tabloids and a long flight home, she addressed the media. I cannot say that I would do that same. Here are pictures. Two after the break

Before the press conference, I wandered around West Seattle, the neighborhood where Knox grew up, and found a sign at Easy Street Records, welcoming home Knox.

Supporters of Amanda Knox, from left, John Lang, Kellanne Henry and Margaret Ralph celebrate the overturning of Knox's conviction for killing British student Meredith Kercher October 3, 2011 in a hotel in Seattle Washington. The slander charges were upheld.

I photographed a group of Amanda Knox supporters in Seattle. The had camped out all night in a hotel and were outnumbered, significantly, by members of the media of which I was one. For the supporters, the news was good. Amanda Knox’s conviction for the murder of her roommate was overturned. Most didn’t really have a feeling of, which way the jury would rule. Here are some photos.

Running back Marshawn Lynch #24 of the Seattle Seahawks somersaults in the end zone after scoring a touchdown against the Atlanta Falcons during play at CenturyLink Field on October 2, 2011 in Seattle, Washington. The Falcons won the game 30-28.

I photographed the Seattle Seahawks as they nearly beat the Atlanta Falcons. It wasn’t expected, since the Falcons had a 20-point lead at one point. The game included a Marshawn Lynch touchdown, which feature a flip in the end zone (above). Mike Williams also had a touchdown. Unforunately, an unnamed photography leaned out and block my lens during the touch, which is why the right side of the fram is a bit hazy. The Seahawks lost on the last play of the game when they came up short on a 61-yard field goal. I think I got a fairly nice picture of the dejection and celebration in the same frame. I especially like the quality of light in the Williams touchdown celebration photo. And there are photos after the break.

A portrait of a CEO in a lab

AVM Biotech CEO Theresa Deisher poses for photographs in her lab in Seattle Friday Sept. 30, 2011.

I photographed a The CEO of a small Biotech company here in Seattle. The pictures were made with my small strobes, a beauty dish and saberstrip light strips. I was really pleased with the soft backgrounds and somewhat, but not too dramatic light.
