Brendan Ryan #26 of the Seattle Mariners slides safely into third base ahead of the tag of Josh Donaldson #20 of the Oakland Athletics during a game at Safeco Field on April 14, 2012 in Seattle, WA.

It is Spring and time for baseball. I covered my first Mariners game and first baseball game of the season. Not having shot in a while I always feel a bit rusty, which can be exacerbated if there isn’t much action in the game. Though I lucked out at bit and got a few nice frames. Two pictures after the break.

It has been a while since I shot the Seattle Mariners, but I was assigned to photograph to games this weekend. I love shooting baseball and I cannot really describe why. Perhaps it is the mythos I associate with it, which is certainly influenced by David James Duncan’s ‘the Brothers K’ and W.P. Kinsella’s ‘Box Social’ as well as Ron Shelton’s film, ‘Bull Durham.’ Sometimes the games don’t make for good action pictures, but there are few places I’d rather be. And then there are players like Felix Hernandez, a Cy Young Award winner and one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. King Felix appears dressed up as his alter ego: Larry Bernandez, which originated from a television promo. It was Larry Bernandez bobblehead night.
