MLS Western Conference Finals: Seattle Sounders FC vs. L.A. Galaxy

The Seattle Sounders FC in in the 2012 MLS Western Conference Final match against the L.A. Galaxy on XBox Pitch at CenturyLink Field. The Sounders won the game 2-1, but lost the playoff series.

Another deluge at CenturyLink Field and another playoff series ending in disappointment for the Sounders. The match against the L.A. Galaxywas quite anti-climatic to start with, since the Sounders came into the match three goals down. Shooting home and away playoff series are not much fun since the winners can lose the final match but win the series. I’m not a big fan. The officiating was a mess as was the trophy presentation. The Sounders were an offsides call and a penalty kick away from tying up the series. I cannot blame the Galaxy for wanting to get off the field as quickly as possible. I think they knew they got really lucky. Two photos after the break, including a photo of the confrontation between Osvaldo Alonso and the referee.

I thought for sure the New England Patriots would run all over the Seattle Seahawks, but the Seahawks defense is for real. Not to mention that Russell Wilson is quite a crafty quarterback. It is sure fun to watch him play. Here are some pictures from the game. More after the break.

The Call: Green Bay Packers at the Seattle Seahawks

Replacement referees signal a Seattle Seahawk touchdown on the last play of an NFL football game against the Green Bay Packers, Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, in Seattle. The Seahawks won the game 14-12.

The Call or as I’ve heard in called by other the Fail Mary happened right in front of me. To be honest I have not seen any video of the controversial play between the Green Bay Packers and the Seattle Seahawks at CenturyLink Field. A lot has been made of the two officials signaling different calls, but that happens all the time and usually the officials huddle together and agree on the call. Here is a couple of pictures of play and a few other from game. I have been told, apparently, that one of my pictures made Rachel Maddow’s ‘Photo of the Week’ and that my picture along with one by Getty Photographer Otto Gruele made it on to the Daily Show as well.

I had the pleasure of meeting actor Charlotte Ross, who visited Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest near Cle Elum. The sanctuary’s residents, an assortment of chimpanzees, with different backgrounds from retired lab animals to former pets, include a chimp that often totes around ‘Troll’ dolls or ‘Dora the Explorer Dolls.

With ‘Dora the Explorer’ doll in tow, resident chimp Foxie makes her way through tall grass in the Young’s Hilll outdoor enclosure at Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest Thursday July 19, 2012 near Cle Elum, Wash. Before her coming to the sanctuary, Foxie used for hepatitis vaccine studies. Foxie is particular fond of Troll dolls as well.

A Boeing Factory Tour

I went on a media tour of the Boeing Factory in Everett a few weeks back. It was a preview for the Farnborough Air Show. It is always interesting to get into the factory. He later killed a woman in a carjacking and then turned the a gun on himself as police approached. Seattle has scene a rash of gun violence in the past several weeks.

A rash of gun violence in Seattle was punctuated when a gunman shot and killed four people in a coffee shop and later shot a woman in a carjacking. The gunman later shot and killed himself as police approached him. Here are some pictures from the scenes. This incident started at the north end of Seattle and ended in Southwest Seattle. According the the gunman’s family, he suffered from mental illness for which they tried to him help, but were unable to do so. Here are some pictures from the scene. It is always tough to cover grief, but those that I photographed and spoke with were very gracious and appreciative. Here are some pictures with a few after the break.

Boeing Delivers 747-8 Intercontinental to Lufthansa

I photographed the delivery of a 747-8 Intercontinental to Lufthansa. Included was a nice moment of the Luftthansa VP taking a a picture of his company’s new plane, which is reflected in the windows of the Future of Flight Aviation Center. At the Museum of Flight near Seattle in a spot that will house the Space Shuttle trainer, a company called Planetary Resources at a press conference announced its plan to mine asteroids using satellites. On hand was a small satellite mockup. Here are some pictures. The venture has attracted some big names including James Cameron and Eric Schmidt. It is Spring and time for baseball. I covered my first Mariners game and first baseball game of the season. POTUS Visits Boeing

President Barack Obama visited the Boeing 787 assembly line in Everett. The line made for a nice back backdrop and had some opportunities to move around and make some nice photos.
